Saint Gervais les Bains is an authentic and still functioning year round spa town with a beautiful mix of Baroque and fin de siècle architecture.

The town is extremely easy to access: barely an hour from Geneva airport; only fifteen minutes drive from the Autoroute Blanche; and on the doorstep of its own high speed TGV station. A stunning new 710 metre bridge above the awe inspiring Bonnant Gorge is now under construction, which will divert through traffic away from Saint Gervais’ historic centre and provide rapid access to the ski lifts from all parts of town.

Saint Gervais is also the possessor of France’s highest rack-railway. The Tramway de Mont Blanc means that those staying in Saint Gervais can easily explore the Les Houches area of the Chamonix valley and being ratcheted up steep, rock-walled passes in a wooden-seated train remains unarguably the most charming way to start the skiing day.

Skiing & Boarding In St Gervais

St Gervais is also a fantastic ski resort situated in the beating heart of 300 kilometres of pistes (450 kilometres included in the larger ‘Evasion’ ski pass and well over 500 kilometres including Les Houches). It should be a name that tumbles from the tongue of every serious skier. But despite its attractions, perhaps because it is sandwiched between exclusive Megève and the Alps’ unofficial capital city of Chamonix, sleepy Saint Gervais tends to get overlooked; much to the satisfaction of those who have already discovered it. Outside of peak weeks the slopes are usually dreamily empty and lift accessed powder fields lie unravaged for days after those in better known locations have been thoroughly trounced.

Saint Gervais has a staggeringly good snow record for its relatively modest altitude because it lies to the west of Mont Blanc (indeed technically the Mont Blanc peak is in the Saint Gervais commune) the direction from which virtually all French snow systems arrive.
